Jurassic Park (Steven Spielberg, 1993)

Whilst Magnolia will always be my favourite film (it's the only film where by viewing it, it transcended the medium and effected me on a far more personal level than any other film has before or since), it's Spielberg's Dino blockbuster that was the movie that got me interested in movies to begin with. Witnessing the apparent fear my girlfriend was experiencing (it was her first viewing) caused me to remember back to when I was frightened 8 year old boy in that darkened cinema on Colchester high street. Dinosaurs had literally come to life. Movie magic had won me over.

It may be approaching its 17th birthday but its power has yet to dwindle. It's still terrifying and still relentlessly tense and an awe-inspiring spectacle back in the day where nothing like this had ever been seen before.

This is one of the great blockbusters of our time.

5/5
