Film: 127 Hours (Dany Boyle, 2011)

Despite it's obvious flaws, not least in the fact that the ending is a foregone conclusion, 127 Hours reaffirms Danny Boyle's consistency as a director. Considering he managed to pull this film off in little under a year, the feat is remarkable and it's quality self assured. It's almost like he's not even trying.

Boyle's flair as a director is ever present here and kudos should be levied at his ability to often think outside the box. Whilst the camera work is often deliberately intrusive, he also goes places you wouldn't normally expect, as in one moment where the scene cuts to inside Ralston's arm upon his realisation that his knife wont be able to cut through the bone. Cue the knife tapping the bone with an air of inconvenience.

It's a very confident piece that is only let down by the mere fact that you know what will happen. As such, it lacks that little extra tension that made the likes of Buried so good.

James Franco as Ralston is terrific. He's definitely shown that he's come leaps and bounds since being Spider-Man's best friend.
