Candyman (Bernard Rose, 1992)
Candyman could quite possibly be one of the most underrated horror movies of all time. Terrifying to the last, it does that age old thing that all horror movies should do: creep uncomfortably under your skin. Whilst it features a rather large amount of blood and violence, the beauty of Candyman is its dogged determination to make the audience take everything as seriously as the actors are on screen. It’s this seriousness (and believe me, there is not a single joke to be found here) that makes Candyman work. Despite it’s outlandish nature, you believe in it enough for be both emotionally invested and riveted.
I love it.
