Strange Days (Kathryn Bigelow, 1995)

Seen many movies this weekend and, honestly, I’m all out of creativity in terms of writing a mature opinion on this one so I’ll be brief.

Strange Days = Flawed but excellent. Thrilling techno thriller that packs more balls than most action/thrillers these days, ironic considering it’s directed by a woman. It’s violent (including rape), includes enough twists and turns to keep things interesting and has everyone saying “fuck” lots. It goes on for too long and there are a few too many bad guys but it does its job very, very well.

It even feels like a good old 90’s action film. They generally have a sensibility, along with their 80’s brethren, that cannot be matched and is ultimately missed.

4/5
