To all Twilight fans: this is a film with proper vampires, not whiney emo sparkling cunts. I have no problem in saying that Twilight has pretty much destroyed any credibility that the blood sucking monsters once had. I have never been a huge fan of vampire lore but I mean c'mon, am I the only one that shouted WTF when the douches sparkled?
I digress. For the Twilight haters among us (and I know many), there is always the likes of Near Dark, a near perfect example of what vampires should be. All traits complicit with the vampire sub-genre are all present and accounted for: excess blood, night, a heavy undercurrent of sexuality but, unlike most vampire stories that exploit these, Near Dark manages to balance them all perfectly.
Once scene, in which our motley crew of the undead taunt then eat the clientele of a redneck bar, is worth watching the film for.
A vampire western if you will.
