To describe Drag Me To Hell as a rollercoaster ride would be cliché but it is also very appropriate. Sam Raimi is the only director I can think of off hand that manages to judge the balance of horror and comedy perfectly. I watched Drag Me To Hell round a friend's house with a group who had not seen it before and I watched as they laughed heartily and cowered with fear. With the talking goat, they did both. There are moments that really are laugh out loud funny (the parking lot ruckus with the missing dentures is a standout) and also scenes that are frightening beyond belief (the ending, any time the Lamia rocks up). Any film that has the balls to whack a kid in the opening five minutes gets some serious kudos in my book.
I'm rather happy Raimi is no longer doing his Spider-Man movies. It's gives him more time to churn out little gems like this.
