Is Evil Dead 2 the greatest horror movie ever made? Possibly but with a genre that includes The Shining, The Exorcist, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Thing among others, it’s a close call.
The splatstick is right on the money (I love the noise Ash’s disembodied hand makes) and the chills are genuinely frightening. Having not seen it for a good few years, since uni at least, what struck was how well the atmosphere is sustained throughout. The scene where everything starts to laugh (moose heads, books, lamps, chairs, everything) is somewhat disconcerting.
As with my recent viewing of Drag Me To Hell, I watched Evil Dead 2 with the same group of friends and we all enjoyed the hell out of it. It’s rather refreshing to see it with those that had never seen it before.
