Film: The Social Network (David Fincher, 2010)

In my original review for The Social Network, I predicted that, despite as score of 4/5, the film would have near endless replay value. This second viewing proves that, and whilst I still think that both Inception and Toy Story 3 were better movies come the end of 2010, The Social Network should stand up as Fincher’s most accessible and mainstream movie to date. This isn’t a bad thing. Whilst movies like Se7en and Fight Club battle it out as his best work, there’s something about The Social Network that just works more than his grimmer movies.

The performances are excellent and the screenplay is pure dynamite, but the greatness of The Social Network is how timeless it is. It’s a story of how power and greed can tear up loyalties and it’s been seen before (Wall Street immediately springs to mind) but seldom does it feel so immediate. The fact that it concerns the birth of Facebook is secondary.

I still want a business card that says “I’m C.E.O. bitch!”

4.5/5
