Step Brothers (Adam McKay, 2008)

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay have consistently failed to recapture the magic that made their collaboration on Anchorman so great. With Step Brothers, they have come the closest but are still, unfortunately, quite a way off.

There are some decent laughs. Adam Scott, who was last seen shot-gunning man eating fish in the face in Piranha 3D, is brilliant as Ferrell's ego-centric and self absorbed younger brother, whilst the lady playing his wife (her name escapes me) gets some of the best lines: "I wanna role you up into a little ball and push you in my vagina."

The problem is, whilst watching Ferrell and Reilly pratting about as overgrown kids is intermittently funny, after the first hour, the film overstays its welcome. The climax, in which the Step Brothers of the title come together to prove themselves in front of family and friends, is cringe worthy enough to cause this reviewers to look away from the screen.

Look up the definition of "average" in the dictionary, and you'll find Step Brothers.

2.5/5
