There’s a word for this kind of film: lazy.
Why is it that the fourth part of any successful horror franchise is always such a nose dive compared to the previous three? Saw IV? A Nightmare on Elm Street 4? This?
I will admit that the first three Final Destination film were never, in any way, fine art, but they all did what they set out to do and made a bunch of cheesy horror flicks that were fun and thrilling. This just sucks. Everyone involved appear to be a bored as the audience and although it does deliver on the grue (I really liked the chick getting ground to paste in the broken escalator), none of the deaths are memorable and never are they as outlandish and shocking as in the previous instalments. Hell they even try to replicate the bus death from number one and fail.
Final Destination has run its course. As my friend David Camp stated upon viewing, New Line has successfully managed to make the same movie four times now and you know what? It’s getting old. This one just isn’t even trying.
Plans for a fifth are depressing yet unsurprising.
1.5/5
