Slither (James Gunn, 2006)

This alien invasion-cum-zombie-cum-splatstick-mish-mash may not be as funny as it thinks it is but it's an entertaining way to lose an hour and a half. First time director James Gunn (having previously penned the surprisingly good Dawn of the Dead remake) is not the world's best director and the first half of this film is a bit messy (both in terms of directing chops and the onscreen grue), however, when the movie's plot concerns alien worms turning people into zombies by incubating in their brains, you can't fault it too much. It is quite fun and whilst it's not as humorous as it could have been it is still funny. The gore is both inventive and amusing and quite rightly relies on more practical effects, ala The Thing, rather than CGI.

I like it in the same way as Tremors and Snakes on a Plane.

4/5
