Ron Howard’s best film since Apollo 13 is flat in its opening hour but triumphs when the interviews start. A boxing match with words, its two leads are terrific, both perfectly balancing their genuine acting talent with spot on imitation of their real life counterparts.
The supporting cast is pleasantly made up of excellent character actors with the likes of Kevin Bacon, Sam Rockwell, Toby Jones and Oliver Platt, all of whom make easy work of their supporting roles.
It was cool to hear an audible gasp from my girlfriend upon Langella’s uttering of: “When the President does it, it’s NOT illegal!” Priceless.
4/5
