Michael Clayton (Tony Gilroy, 2007)

Despite being a best picture nominee, Michael Clayton seems to have been forgotten only roughly two years since its release. Although it received a lukewarm reaction here in the UK (the Yanks seemed to like it much more), it is an underrated and overlooked piece of brilliance, a thought provoking and intelligent film that leaves you feeling that much smarter come the end. It's extremely well written and acted with understated direction from Gilroy, who here creates swathes of tension from scenes of people standing, talking about corporate conspiracy and espionage.

Terrific.

5/5
