Pixar's second feature may not have had the spark that elevated Toy Story to instant classic status but it's still far better than the likes of the Madagascar's, the Ice Age's and any of those god awful Shrek movies (I have still yet to see Shrek the Third. Thanks goodness for small favours).
It's flawed, it can get a little too childish at times (maybe somewhat a redundant complaint as it is a family film) and doesn't have that many gut busting laughs as some of the studio's later entries (although Tuck and Roll shouting "You're Fired" still gets a giggle) but it does have that Pixar charm and even as far back as this film (twas released in 1998 don't you know) they still did that thing that DreamWorks fails to do time and time again: put the story first.
A hugely enjoyable lesser effort from the Gods of animation.
